Scientists from South Korea have developed an ultra-thin wearable device that can provide continuous heart rate monitoring. They used gold nanoparticles to create the device.
The researchers claim that currently available wearable heart rate monitoring gadgets are not suitable for all situations.
The scientists said that the rapid developments in wearable electronics have led to an urgent demand for deformable electronic devices. Most deformable memory devices reported so far, however, are just flexible. These kinds of memory devices are not compatible with wearable applications that require complicated modes of mechanical deformations such as stretching.
The researchers also said that the device is capable of providing a more accurate report of the patients’ health compared to traditional devices. This will allow the patient to be more accurately treated for the condition they have.
The study demonstrated reliable data storage of heart rates, which are obtained from ECG signals.
“The stretchable, high density, and ultra-thin memory array with the enhanced charge storage capability has great potential for various wearable electronics applications,” they pointed out.
