Clean drinking water is still a distant dream in Indian suburbs

“Now you can drink the water from the well” – every year my grandmother used to tell all of us soon after the health inspectors visited our village on the onset of monsoon in Kerala and dumped lots of chlorine in the well water. The reason for the visit of health inspector is that, in the area where we lived the ground water level almost reaches the surface and almost all wells starts overflowing. To prevent contamination of well water, the health inspectors come as soon as monsoon hits Kerala and dump a good quantity of chlorine in each and every well in that village.
